The Constructing Excellence Members Sustainability Group identified the need for more information on the Corporate Responsibility agenda. A guide has been produced which examines the main issues and implications for the built environment industry and is now available to members only.

The joint industry and government Strategy for Sustainable Construction was launched on 11th June 2008. The strategy lays out key targets and deliverables on a number of sustainability issues including procurement, people, waste and climate change.

The Code for Sustainable Homes, which was officially launched last December and replaces BRE's EcoHomes system, shares the principles of the forthcoming DTI strategy on sustainable construction and complements ideas put forward in the recent Stern Review on the economic implications of climate change.

The programme aims to provide an innovative way to meet the challenge of providing new solutions to housing construction by using modern factory methods. It differs from other off-site manufacturing in that it is promoting a wide variety of materials and structures.
