Skills and Tools Matrix
The Sustainability Forum has a number of subgroups that look at specific issues in detail.
The sub group that focused on skills issues produced a skills matrix to:
- Provide a high level tool that influences and informs existing standards.
- Help to direct and coordinate efforts to develop capacity for sustainability skills, knowledge and attitudes.
- Provide a framework against which the necessary skills, knowledge and attitudes can be identified and developed.
- In the context of skill/ knowledge development, pinpoint the most critical social, environmental and economic issues that should be considered.
The purpose of the matrix is to:
- Frame research by Sector Skills Councils and others to determine industry skills needs, gaps and provision.
- Determine whether current provision is 'fit for purpose'.
- Measure industry progress.
- Measure SSC progress in supporting industry skills development.
- Generate a baseline measure of skills, knowledge and attitudes.
- Provide a framework for creating a database of skills/training.
- Influencing the content and direction of other related skills standards.
The matrix has been handed over formally to the Sector Skills Councils and is forming the basis of the work of AssetSkills, ConstructionSkills and SummitSkills on sustainable construction issues. It is also being used by construction organisations to help frame training plans.
The group also produced a tools matrix which outlines the range of tools that are available and their uses.
