Sustainability is recognised in the construction industry as good business practice, achieved by managing impacts on the environment and society, and seeing the business benefits that sustainability can bring.
SustainabilityZone is designed to help companies in the construction industry improve the sustainability of their businesses through guidance and toolkits, demonstrations of best practice, industry news and useful publications addressing issues relevant to sustainable construction.
SustainabilityZone also publicises the work of the Constructing Excellence Sustainability Team in its engagement with its membership and external stakeholders as well as sustainability-related events.

The Constructing Excellence Members Sustainability Group identified the need for more information on the Corporate Responsibility agenda. A guide has been produced which examines the main issues and implications for the built environment industry and is now available to members only.

The joint industry and government Strategy for Sustainable Construction was launched on 11th June 2008. The strategy lays out key targets and deliverables on a number of sustainability issues including procurement, people, waste and climate change.

The Heritage Lottery Fund has published the "Planning Greener Heritage Projects" guidance, developed by the Constructing Excellence Sustainability Team.
