Summary

The National Platform for the Built Environment commissioned the Constructing Excellence Sustainability Team to undertake a study within its membership and other contacts into industry research requirements in the area of Reducing Resource Consumption.

The motivation behind this piece of work is the need to create an understanding of current and ongoing research on the subject and identify where there are likely to be information gaps.

The study aims to identify the following issues, within the scope of Energy, Water, and Materials:

There are three elements of this study:

Desk Research

A review of current and planned initiatives on the subjects outlined in the table above. This will include web research, literature review and discussion with key industry players.

Industry Survey

An online survey, publicised to over 500 industry stakeholders, to provide an overview of the different subject areas and identify key stakeholders who are able to offer more detailed insights.

Interviews with key stakeholders

This includes academics, industry representatives and research organisations.

Outcomes

The main outcome of the work will be a 'roadmap' in the form of a research matrix which will identify short, medium and long term work which is either in progress or planned, alongside the main themes outlined above. This will also be accompanied by a commentary to cover extra insights and information which are of relevance.
