The Institute for Sustainability has commissioned Constructing Excellence to help London-based SMEs in their supply chain develop their skills and capabilities relating to low carbon refurbishment work.

The Institute for Sustainability
The Institute for Sustainability is an independent charity, led by a world class board representing UK industry, academia and the public sector, set up to accelerate the delivery of sustainable cities and communities. It works closely with partners to drive innovative and collaborative demonstration projects that identify practical solutions. It shares the knowledge and learning from these and other projects to identify best practice, encourage investment and actively support social and economic development.
The Institute aims to help more than 1000 London-based small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to take advantage of the opportunities presented by the move towards a greener economy.
About FLASH
The Institute's FLASH programme is part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and provides a range of business support to London-based SMEs. It has been designed to help businesses working in construction and other built environment industries, technologies and professions to seize the commercial opportunities presented by the growing market for sustainable development and retrofit.
Working with the Technology Strategy Board, University College London, University of East London, University of Greenwich and London South Bank University among others, the Institute has access to some of the most recent and credible research, analysis and best practice in the field. We want to share this information, free of charge and in way that actively helps SMEs take advantage of the commercial potential of the growing market for 'green' construction.
The opportunity
It is estimated that over £200 billion needs to be invested in upgrading our current building stock to meet government carbon reduction targets. This presents major opportunities to companies working in the built environment sector to provide materials, products and services.
We aim to ensure that businesses are able to access practical experience and advice, academic knowledge sources and groundbreaking research findings to develop their businesses, and collaborate with others facing similar challenges and opportunities.
Constructing Excellence has been appointed as one of eight network managers by the Institute for Sustainability and will seek to deliver business support to SMEs within its network. We have designed a programme of support for companies interested in accessing future retrofit opportunities which will include:
How do I get involved?
If your organisation employs fewer than 250 people and has a London presence then you will be able to participate. To sign up to FLASH please contact Jon de Souza or download and complete the application form below.
