CITB-ConstructionSkills is keen to support the industry in adopting integrated working. In 2003, it approved funding to run a two year action learning project on supply chain integration, logistics and e-trading.
Four lead contractors were members of the project, Taylor Woodrow, Interserve, Denne and Wates. They brought with them a range of interesting and challenging business issues which formed sub-projects within the overall programme. An overview of each contractor's story and the lessons learned can be shared by clicking here. A further sub-project was led by CITE, Construction Industry Trading Electronically. CITE worked with all four contractors and a number of their supply chain partners, developing ways to improve process efficiency via the use of IT.
Taylor Woodrow, Denne and Wates also worked with Synchro who have developed a project management software system that enables the planning and synchronisation of labour, materials, equipment and space within a timeframe.
The action learning project sought to find out how to accelerate the take up of integrated supply chains and logistics within the construction industry.
The project's executive summary details the lessons learnt, the conclusions reached and the recommendations made to the industry's stakeholders.
