Peter, a chartered engineer by profession, has had an extensive career in construction and facilities management. The majority of his 40 years in the industry has been spent in Healthcare, operating and building hospitals. As Head of Construction with the Department of Health he was responsible for developing NHS Procure 21, the construction framework process.
Peter has spent the past two years with the Office of Government Commerce, part of the treasury where he headed the Construction and FM Efficiency Division, delivering improvements across the whole public sector.
His latest position is leading the London Procurement Network which provides procurement and supply chain management expertise to London ALMOs and their housing programmes.
Peter is the Chair of the Construction Clients’ Group which also embraces asset and facility managers. He is a prolific writer and presenter on partnering and supply chain management, being in demand both within the UK and abroad.
Peter engages with academia through his role of Visiting Professor with Northumbria University.
Simon is a Chartered Civil Engineer by profession and is currently Procurement Operations Group Manager at the Highways Agency. He has played a key role in developing and implementing the Highways Agency’s procurement strategy, including supplier selection and performance measurement policies and tools. Simon has developed strong relationships with his supply chain and played a major role in establishing a client-supplier community to support the delivery of major projects.
Simon has previously held a number of other roles including the management of new projects and the maintenance of the Highways Agency’s infrastructure assets. He has also delivered several intelligent transport systems projects to improve traffic operations. As a Project Manager, his last project won the British Construction Industry Major Project of the Year award.
Simon is actively involved in promoting the change agenda in the wider construction industry and has been advising the Construction Clients Group since it was established. He has recently taken up the post of Vice-Chairman of the Group.
James Preston-Hood was appointed Group Health and Safety Consultant for Grosvenor in July 2002 and is now Grosvenor Health and Safety Director. Grosvenor is an international property owner, developer and fund manager.
James joined Grosvenor from Ove Arup where he was a health and safety consultant, specialising in construction health and safety. He joined Arup in 2000 after spending 10 years with the Health and Safety Executive.
CCG has been working hard since the first health and safety summit and has an active health and safety group which James chairs.
James has just completed a three year term with Industrial Injuries Advisory Council (IIAC) as an Employers’ representative, and he was appointed as a Clients’ Representative to the HSE’s Construction Industry Advisory Committee (CONIAC) in January 2006.
Kevin Thomas is a former public and private side client with 30 years experience of built environment provision, operation and regeneration from board level strategy to hands on project and facilities management. He is a strategic thinker, experienced facilitator and proven change agent who challenges teams and organisations to identify and implement improvements which deliver superior value for all stakeholders.
Kevin created the award winning ‘FUSION’ approach for GlaxoWellcome (now GSK) in 1995 and led the development of the Strategic Forum’s Integration Toolkit launched in 2003. He is a board member of the Construction Clients Group, Member of the Strategic Forum’s Integration Task Group and Coach to the Constructing Excellence Collaborative Working Champions.
Robert is the National Construction Director and has responsibility for procurement strategies and the operational delivery of igloo’s direct developments across the UK in conjunction with the Development and Project Directors.
Robert is a Chartered Builder, Chartered Surveyor, Chartered Environmentalist and Corporate Construction Surveyor with over 25 years managerial experience in the Construction, Civil Engineering, House building & Mixed Use Development Businesses.
Following on from his success over a number of years with Mowlem PLC delivering a large number of complex projects across SW England and Wales, Robert worked as an Executive for Developer Crest Nicholson for 8 years establishing and delivering Major mixed use developments with a combined development value over £1 Billion.
Steve Vickers has worked in local government for over thirty-nine years, being appointed Chief Building Surveyor for Birmingham City Council in 1991 and to his current post of General Manager of Urban Design in October 2000.
A member of the national steering group for the Construction Lean Improvement Programme, a member of Constructing Excellence Council, Board Member of the Local Government Task Force, Board Member of the Construction Clients Group, a member of the Strategic Forum for Construction SME group, Steve works with bodies such as the National Federation of Builders, OGC, HSE, etc., to help promote best practice through partnership working.
Steve has led the procurement change to move Birmingham City Council away from lowest cost tendering to strategic frameworks with contractors and consultants whilst acknowledging the need to involve the ‘local’ supply chains and ensure sustainable businesses and employment. He has also been appointed as the West Midlands Regional champion for the Local Government Task Force on Constructing Excellence and is a Board Member of the West Midlands Centre for Constructing Excellence.
Gren is the Head of the Pavement and Infrastructure Team, responsible for the design planning and safe delivery of all BAA’s civil engineering infrastructure works. The team comprises of over 200 multi-skilled members from numerous suppliers and consultants managing a turnover in the range of £90M - £140M per annum. He is also Head of Capital Projects Health and Safety Department covering all airports with an average annual spend in excess of £500M.
Gren has extensive experience of managing a wide variety of complex projects ranging from airfield pavement through to mega airport buildings including the specialist systems within.
Gren has managed the strategic direction of BAA’s Capital Projects Health and Safety Division since 1999 and has played a significant role in improving performance and the resulting recognition BAA enjoys in the industry.
