April 2005 saw the formation of a single new change organisation for the UK built environment industry: Constructing Excellence in the Built Environment. Bringing together Constructing Excellence and Be, the two lead organisations driving change in the UK built environment industry, will deliver real benefits for the industry, clients and government.
The built environment industry, embracing construction, housing, property, infrastructure and facilities management, is a vibrant part of the economy as a whole, contributing almost 20% to UK GDP. The industry builds and operates hospitals and schools, roads and railways, offices and homes, creating the environment in which we all live and work. We have much to be proud of; but we also have challenges ahead - and this is where we will bring real value.
Our goal is to drive a world class industry that is customer focused, profitable, safe, and sustainable. By supporting and promoting collaborative working and innovation, we are confident that we can reach this goal.
The formation of the new organisation brings together two powerful agents of change who will lobby the industry for progress on the change agenda. We will be influential at Government level, helping to shape and drive policies that are positive for the industry and will be supportive and educational at client level, driving innovation through demand. We will be a powerful voice for the UK built environment industry.
Through Be's commitment to collaborative working the industry can become truly world class. Be will strive to promote unity and live out its core values in everything it does - including working more closely with other bodies with whom we share a common interest. Our current priorities are:
- To influence as the largest independent supply chain body
- Provide innovation, learning, guidance and delivery
- Create like-minded networks and member-with-member businesses
