Sustainable Training for Sustainable Communities
Sustainable Training for Sustainable Communities, a joint project between The Housing Forum and CITB ConstructionSkills, was launched in 2003 to address the housing sector's skills gap by exploring best practice in a number of Housing Forum Demonstration Projects; establish the business case for investing in workforce training and diverse recruitment; and share learning between projects. The initial key findings from the first year of Sustainable Training for Sustainable Communities were launched at the ODPM Delivering Sustainable Communties summit on the 1st February. The Minister for Construction, Nigel Griffiths launched the findings and was joined by Dennis Lenard, Chief Executive of the Housing Forum and Di Barber, Equality and Diversity Advisor at CITB ConstructionSkills. Initial Results of the Housing Forum Housing Corporation Survey
The Housing Forum has conducted a survey of the Housing Corporation ADP Partner RSLs on behalf of the Housing Corporation to explore issues arising from the ADP Partnering Programme. Seventy surveys were sent out in December 2004 and by January 2005 the response rate was 40%. The initial results of the survey have been analysed and it was found that of the respondents:
- 71% were in Partnering Programme Agreements with other Housing Associations.
- 64% of respondents regularly measured performance across their supply chain and gave most weighting to quality and price when selecting their partners.
- The most commonly reported successes arising from partnering and supply chain integration were greater predictability and fewer defects.
- The most commonly reported successes achieved by MMC are awards, recognition and time savings.
- Initial costs are the key barriers to use of MMC
The survey has been followed by a series of five Chief Executive Breakfast Briefings, four of which are being chaired by Sir Michael Latham. These are followed by seminars for Directors of Development to explore the essentials of strategic development strategies to help RSLs improve performance so as to maintain the partnering relationship with the Housing Corporation.
