Middlesbrough Council Design Services have developed an innovative way of using the Construction Industry KPIs to set targets and then use their "Rethinking Driver", which is based on the EFQM excellence model, to help drive improvement actions in a structured way. Their ambition is to be a "top quartile performer" in critical areas such as client satisfaction and predictability.
Their approach has won funding under the Beacon Peer Support Programme to help other organisations adopt the Driver.

On Sunday 11th July, Constructing Excellence South West Region entered a pantomime horse in the Hydrex Handicap Stakes at the Bath racecourse in Lansdown. It was a charity race to raise money for the National Spinal Injuries Association and the Round Table Children's Wish. 20 pantomime horses entered and the race was televised live on the Sky racing channel. Unfortunately the Constructing Excellence horse, named Bristol's Best and prepared and raced by Phil Durston and Simon Timms, finished 2nd from last, although a fantastic day was had by all. The total amount raised has yet to be established.
