Low Carbon Construction Review

Don Ward, Chief Executive, and David Whysall, co-chair of g4c, are amongst the Constructing Excellence people making input to this major government review, ensuring that the findings of the Wolstenholme report, Never waste a good crisis, are fully taken into account.

On 17 September 2009 Peter Mandelson announced a review of the construction industry to ensure it was 'fit for purpose' for delivering a low carbon future.

The review will assess the strengths of, and opportunities for, the UK construction industry in a low carbon economy, and will consider how the UK can be a world leader in this sector. It is being undertaken by an "Innovation and Growth Team" (IGT) following a model which has worked sucessfully in the past in a number of industry sectors, including aerospace and automotive. At its simplest, an IGT is an industry led group drawn together to develop a future plan for the industry and to make recommendations to Government and others on how to achieve this. The Construction IGT is led by Paul Morrell, the Chief Construction Adviser, and will be undertaken by a mix of industry experts and those with wider business experience.
