BS 8534:2011 - "Construction procurement policies, strategies and procedures - Code of practice" gives recommendations and guidance on the development of policies, strategies and procedures for the procurement of construction in the built environment.

The built environment sector is facing great opportunities and challenges posed by reduced economic activity whilst, simultaneously, housing organisations face changes in planning policy, HRA financing, low-carbon standards, etc. Thus, Constructing Excellence would like to review and refocus the services that we provide to housing organisations.

Increased urbanisation has created a broad range of both challenges and opportunities which require a reassessment of the way in which cities are planned and resources are shared. As a result, the development of the 'Smart City' has emerged as a route to better quality and more sustainable living.

It is now fifteen months since the publication of BSI PAS 91 Construction related procurement Prequalification questionnaires, in October 2010. During the intervening period there has been ample opportunity for many people to make use of the question sets provided in the PAS and to form an opinion as to their suitability.

The next Constructing Excellence members' forum will take place on the afternoon of 14 March 2012 and will cover provide an update on industry progress with BIM. As many members will be aware, Constructing Excellence has been heavily involved in the BIM agenda since the Avanti project around eight years ago. Our Members' BIM Task Group pre-dates the recent work by Government and we are delighted to say that we have influenced the Government strategy.
