2007 Winners

Celebrating Construction

More than 850 construction professionals came together at Celebrating Construction on Friday 30 March at the ICC, Birmingham, to celebrate securing awards for achieving excellence in construction.

Winners of the West Midlands Centre for Constructing Excellence (WMCCE) awards were announced by Joanne Malin of ITV's Central News and George Marsh WMCCE Chairman.

The overall winner was Clive Benfield, of Coventry-based K.B. Benfield Group, who was honoured with the award for a 'Major Contribution to Excellence and Quality'.

Worcester-based Thomas Vale won the award for 'Leadership In People Development' for their impressive commitment to staff training.

In the 'Supply Chain Partnerships' category the winner was Birmingham Construction Partnership made up of three main contractors GF Thomlinson Ltd, Thomas Vale Construction and Wates Construction.

Stepnell won the 'Sustainability Award' for a sustainable secondary school built in Hereford.

The winner of the 'Innovation Award' was Warwickshire-based Alumet Systems for their ABLE Façade System designed to withstand the effects of a terrorist bomb blast.

George Marsh, WMCCE Chairman said: "These awards reward and recognise outstanding firms across the region. This year entries were of an extremely high standard and I congratulate all the winners and finalists".

Celebrating Construction was co-hosted by Birmingham City Council's Building Consultancy service, the Chartered Institute of Building's (CIOB) West Midlands branch and WMCCE.

vThe event also incorporated Building Consultancy's ninth annual Built in Quality and Quality in Demolition Awards, which reward and promote excellent work in both construction and demolition.

The Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Cllr Mike Sharpe, presented these awards.
