In a very hotly contested category, the n3 Partnership, formed between Northumberland County Council, Carillion and Faber Maunsell, was the winner in this award. The partnership represents an innovative approach to the delivery of the Council’s capital programme, allowing people from all three organisations to work together to a common goal.

Leadership and People Development

Lumsden & Carroll Construction were crowned the very deserving winners of this award, for their partnership with one of the North East’s leading homeless charities, the Tyneside Cyrenians, on a truly unique and inspirational venture. The project saw a group of 10 homeless men employed to work with and under the supervision of the Lumsden & Carroll team to construct a building which would provide bedroom accommodation and new office space in the grounds of the Tyneside Cyrenians head office in Newcastle.

Health & Safety (CDM)

The team behind ECHO 24 scooped the CDM Award for the commitment demonstrated in putting Health & Safety at the forefront of their construction agenda. The prestigious ECHO 24 development, representing a partnership between Echo Buildings Ltd, Elliott Projects, Tolent Construction and Mario Minchella Architects, is a residential building comprising 170 apartments spread over 11 floors and boasting spectacular views of the Sunderland coast line.

A worthy winner in the innovation category, Three Rivers Housing Group demonstrated a real understanding of sustainable community and environmental needs to develop West Rainton. This state-of-the-art project of eight-unit two-bedroom bungalows were built to Lifetime Homes standard using the BECO Wallform system.

The Legacy Award – Sustainability

Jane Darbyshire & David Kendall Architects were the deserved winners in this category, for their continued commitment to making sustainability integral to all aspects of the Rivergreen Centre, a serviced office and conference building in Aykley Heads, Durham.




Achievers Award

Achievers Award

Peter Candler was honoured by Constructing Excellence in the North East by becoming the very first winner of the prestigious Outstanding Achievement Award. He has had a substantial impact on the sustainability agenda for the construction industry, and through the building of the fantastic Rivergreen Centre in Durham has ‘raised the bar’ as far as environmentally conscious buildings are concerned.
