The principles of collaborative working the Avanti way are early access to all project information by all partners, early involvement of the supply chain, and sharing of information, drawings and schedules, in an agreed and consistent manner. The Avanti approach is supported by handbooks, toolkits and on-site mentoring.
Avanti focuses on people and processes, mobilising existing enabling technologies. Team working and access to a common information model are at the heart of the Avanti SMP approach to a project's whole life cycle. Using the Avanti approach improves business performance, by increasing quality of information and predictability of outcomes and by reducing risk and waste.
In July 2006, the Avanti DTI Project documentation and brand ownership was transferred to Constructing Excellence. Since the handover we have endeavoured to advertise the savings demonstrated on live projects and to get the industry to accept the SMP as a contractual document. Further work has also been carried out to make Avanti part of the update of BS1192 pt5, BS1192 pt5:2007, this has now been agreed and the BS555 committee are currently coding the methods.
Constructing Excellence will provide a mechanism which will allow Avanti to continue to be developed in a controlled manner through a committee made up of Avanti experts and companies who have already used and benefitted from the approach. We are currently working towards the formation of this Committee and aim to have the inaugural meeting in the coming months, with regular meetings scheduled to follow on from that.
