Partners in Innovation (PII)

Date: 08 January 2006
Type: Initiative or Scheme | Published:

Abstract
Partners in Innovation (PII) is a DTI funded collaborative scheme which provides up to half the costs of research and innovation (R&I) projects within the construction sector. It is open to all UK companies, industry bodies, institutions, research and technology organisations and universities.

PII is run as an annual competition. New money available for the scheme under the 2002 call for proposals, for expenditure in 2003-06, will be around £7.6m.

All projects supported under PII are expected to contribute to the key policy aims at the heart of the Construction Sector Unit's agenda for Construction Research and Innovation.

Key features for 2002

The 2002 competition is organised under three distinct calls for proposals:

PII-Programmes. A directed call, seeking applications for integrated programmes of work that bring together the major R&I competencies and industrial concerns within pre-defined subject areas selected in consultation with the industry. This is a new element within PII designed to support a critical mass of R&I activity within the key areas selected for funding. Combined public and private sector funding is expected to be around £0.5 million per annum for each of the three years covered by these awards (although the programmes will help co-ordinate and maximise synergies from other individual projects in the same areas which are subject to separate funding).

PII-Focus. A directed Call, seeking single-project proposals that address pre-specified Priority Areas (PAs). These PAs have been developed and refined following discussions with CRISP, a web based consultation exercise with the industry in June this year and targeted discussions with interest bodies.

PII-Open. An open Call, seeking single-project proposals on any important topic of relevance to the key policy aims at the heart of the Construction Sector Unit's agenda for construction research and innovation.
